My image of the Hawaiian Lei is, when you landed in Hawaii and getting off of the plane, the local people will pull a Lei on your neck for welcome you to Hawaii.

And the Lei not only confined to hang on the neck, also can be used as crown and decorative hats. The Lei in addition made by flowers also made by acorn and shells.

Lei in Hawaii is symbolic for phylactery and society. Before Lei mostly based shells, feathers, animal’s teeth ect, bones materials made for, and now is based on flowers, grass and acorn.

There is a different material combinations Lei has a different meaning, and they are used in different ceremonies and hula, Lei is a cultural product of Hawaiian.

As at the wedding, the bride wore a Lei is made of jasmine buds and pikake (Hawaiian: peacock) feathers, while the groom’s Lei a made by Maile leaves and orchids.

The Lei made with orchids means sincere, compassion and pure, often used to welcome travelers of the time. In addition to the white color Lei is for the mothers of the bride and groom also for the bridesmaids use.

Also, when you wear a Lei, Lei’s length should be equal to the front and rear.

If you have access to get a Lei from someone, do not remove the Lei in front of the person who gave you that, this is a Hawaii courtesy.
